Hopi Gourd Rattle, A Classic Southwest Artifact as Used in Kachina Ceremonial Dances
This charming rattle was crafted by a Hopi artisan using a natural gourd. These rattles are carried by dancers in important Hopi Kachina dances. This one appears to have seen some use, and shows some paint loss and stains on the painted surface, as shown in the photos. Can be hung from the attached cord. I am unsure of the exact age but it is solidly built and still rattles very nicely!
The Rattle itself (not including cord or feathers) is around 9.25” long and the gourd measures about 4.5” across.
