If you would like a very special way to display your textiles then look no further! I have created this ladder specifically to display your rugs, weavings, textiles, etc… the wide rungs ensure that your textiles have plenty of display space, and the soft-sanded aspen wood wont snag your fibers.

This exact ladder was featured in Jane Smith’s book Santa Fe: Sense of Place , all decked out with 4 of my rugs, a few of which are for sale here too!

The ladder stands 95” tall, and is 34” at the base tapering up to 24” at the top of the poles.

This ladder started it’s life in the aspen forests around Santa Fe. I scour the forest in search of downed (already dead— no aspens were killed to make this!) aspen poles that have the right diameter and aesthetic characteristics that I have in mind… this can take a few hours or a few days and several trips back out until I find just the right poles. After that the outer bark is stripped and each pole is carefully sanded to reveal the beautiful, creamy golden wood below! This is long hard work that must be put in before the next step: laying out the rungs and cutting notches in the vertical poles to accept each rung. Once each rung is notched and the vertical poles notched to accept them, I fit everything together and secure each rung with a screw from behind (dont worry; you cant see the screws, but they are necessary to add strength!)

I have only made a few of these, due to the time and effort that goes into making them; this is the last one that I have, and I won’t be making more. It has been forever preserved in Jane’s beautiful book… and now it could be yours! This is a hand-made from start to finish piece of utilitarian art; if you need a display ladder worthy of your Navajo Rug collection, I believe you have just found it!

This ladder is available only for pickup at my Santa Fe studio. Please take note of the dimensions… you will likely need a pickup truck to transport this home.
